‍Traditional Chinese Yoga Therapy in Stockport

‍Relieving Pain, Enhanced Mobility and Improved Posture with DaoYin

‍As mentioned in the Fascial Release page, Fascial Release can be achieved by either passive or active means. Passive methods include various types of manual therapy, I usually use AnMo a traditional form of Chinese Bodywork that is similar to Shiatsu. It’s similar to Shiatsu because Shiatsu was developed in Japan and was based on AnMo.

‍Active work is based upon self directed movement for this I use Dao Yin a form of Yoga that evolved in ancient Daoist communities in China. Although superficially similar to Indian Yoga it has a subtly  different feel and objective. The feel should always be extremely relaxed without strain. Strenuous effort sends the wrong nervous signal to the Fascia, strain creates a “guarding” response. Fascia becomes thicker, denser and resistant to movement, just the opposite to what we really want. The objective is to create a sense of ease in the whole body.

‍DaoYin: A Treatment session, what’s involved?

‍Dao Yin can be combined with a passive AnMo session in a longer 90 minute session or done by itself in a 60-90 minute session. The first session takes a little longer to allow for a short initial assessment. DaoYin often starts with a series of standing exercises to mobilise and strengthen the body before we move into floor based postures. These postures can be held for a number of minutes, with the objective of finding a fully relaxed position.

‍You should avoid eating a large meal in the three hours prior to a treatment and alcohol is best avoided for 24 hours before a session, while drinking plenty of water to ensure hydration before and after a session is encouraged. N.B. Athletes / dancers are advised not to book a session less than 24 hours prior to an event / performance.

‍AnMo / DaoYin  sessions are charged as follows:

‍A 60 minute AnMo session  (£50).

‍A 100 minute AnMo session  (£80).
